Today, I parked the car to run into my favorite store. When I returned to my car, I was greeted by a policeman. He asked me why I had parked here? I said, "It was the only free spot." I was blocking the cross walk, which was covered in snow and therefore not visible. He took my documents and gave them to another, fortunately much nicer police officer. He looked at me and asked if I spoke Russian. I said (of course with a huge smile), "Very bad!" He smiled and said, "OK, get out of here!"
My last police encounter was on our way to Ivanovo for Thanksgiving. The officer made me sit in their car and I told them about Thanksgiving and wished them Happy Thanksgiving and they let me go!!!
I have not always been so lucky. My first police encounter was not near as pleasant! I am so thankful that today was a positive experience!
