A Visit From Santa…

On Christmas Eve, we discovered that our upstairs neighbor had filed an official complaint against us for being stinky and noisy.  We were shocked!  Shocked that someone thought we smelled.  Smelled so badly that they would go to the official “file a complaint against your neighbor” place and have a mediator come to investigate our apartment.  Since we were in the middle of Christmas preparations, we “nicely” escorted her out the door, but I could not stop thinking about the fact that someone thought we stink!!!

On Christmas, I decided to take this neighbor some Christmas treats.  I wanted to confirm that it was us who were causing the stink and apologize.  Emme wanted to tag along and off we went.  We were greeted by a really sweet man, who did confirm that a smell of bad cooking was coming from our apartment (OK…I will stop right there until you can stop laughing!!!) and sounds of loud voices (OK…more laughter!!!).

I am not a fabulous chef, my kids often eat pasta…plain pasta.  For a change, I may microwave a plate of chip and cheese and declare it nachos.  Stinky food…not unless I burnt the chips or possibly  popcorn in the microwave!!!  And I confess…I do talk…a lot…and occasionally loud, but in all of my many days of apartment living…I don’t remember ever being told I smell!!!

We chatted for a moment, he practiced his English with Emme and as we left. I promised to try to smell better and keep down the volume and asked that if there were any more problems, that he please share them with us personally.

I almost cried this afternoon when our door bell rang and I was greeted by Santa Claus!!!  This same neighbor was dressed as Santa and came to bring Emme some treats and us a plate of goodies.  As he left, he said, “Please come be our guest some time!”
