Home Tour: Kitchen

IMG_6854 IMG_6855 IMG_6858 IMG_6860 IMG_6863 IMG_6864
I wish I liked to cook more, because I really like our kitchen.  It is spacious, light and well organized.  We have the added blessing of a dishwasher…which is rare in Russia.  Even though the majority of our meals are very simple, the kitchen is rarely ever this clean!

Cranium…Victory Is Sooo Sweet!!!

IMG_6876

We hosted our first party tonight and ended the evening with a boys versus girls showdown!!!  Since the boys had demonstrating grace, we took competition to a whole new level!!  Let’s just say…victory was sooo sweet!!!  Way to go girls!!!

Home Tour: Guest Room (AKA My Room…Until a Guest Arrives!)

IMG_6831IMG_6833IMG_6844IMG_6845IMG_6835IMG_6838IMG_6840
Even though I very much consider this “my room” with my special chair, computer, favorite pics, books, etc…it seems everyone always ends up gathering here!  As I write…Keith is napping on the bed, Emme is laying on the floor watching a movie and Gideon is sitting on the arm of my chair reading what I write!!!  This is still my favorite room!!!

Bike Adventure…Boy’s Only!

We are thankful that Keith can use a friend’s bike to go riding with Gid!  They had a blast together!

Home Tour: Entryway & Hall Closets

IMG_6830IMG_6829IMG_6827IMG_6828IMG_6824IMG_6825IMG_6846

Our apartment has fabulous storage, lots of mirrors and great ways to organize (and hide!) all of our junk!!!  From coats to linens, extra kitchen supplies, the kids clothes, holiday decorations and even a bathroom vanity…it is all tucked away in these closets!

Home Tour: Our Bedroom & Balcony

IMG_6814
The apartment came with basic furniture that needed to remain in the apartment, but did not really meet our needs.  There was a huge bed in one of the rooms, but we had promised the kids a bunk bed and were able to use two other borrowed beds.  We were able to store the mattress (incase we max out our 6 other free sleeping spots), but had the huge base to deal with.  After moving it from room to room, we flipped it over and made a platform for our bed!

This is our dryer…wrinkle release to eliminate ironing is no longer an option!!!

But what a great view!!!

Our Favorite Street…

IMG_6735 IMG_6740 IMG_6749 IMG_6757 IMG_6763

So far, most of our St Petersburg adventures seem to begin or end on this street.  It has everything that we love…sushi, coffee, DVDs, a great camera store, street entertainment and lots of people!

An Opportunity and Prayer Request…

Monday, we leave the comforts of our clean home, high speed internet, comfy beds, familiar foods, Wii, English movies and so much more to spend 8 days at an orphanage 3 hours east of St. Petersburg.  Pray that we would be grateful, teachable, humble, the kids would adjust well (and love the food or at least not starve to death!) and we would build fabulous relationships as we share with them the love of Jesus. We have heard that the orphanage is so poor some kids must share shoes...and I am grieving the loss of being temporarily without the comforts we have grown to consider necessities!!! :-)

Emme-isms

IMG_6777

Gideon:  My heart is pumping.  What does that mean?

Emme:  That you are still alive!!!

Emme:  Mommy can’t blow up the balloon…she has bad breath!

Emme:  I am starving…see my stomach!!!

Please Pray for Gid…

IMG_6779

Gideon seems to be having a tough time adjusting.  He loves routines and predictability.  He is full of emotion, thoughts and worries.  He seems to become angry, sad or disappointed easily.  I want to fix the situation, make him happy, take away his worries and make his life perfect…but I can’t.  Life is full of disappointment…especially in Russia.  Please pray for Gideon.  When he is sad…so am I.  When he is frustrated…so am I.  When he is unhappy…so am I.  Pray that God would fill him with joy, peace and contentment.  Pray that he would love his life in Russia and understand our purpose for living here.  Pray that I would be able to let go and trust God to be all Gideon needs, to protect him, love him and change him according to His will…not mine!

Home Tour: The Kid’s Room

IMG_6811 IMG_6804 IMG_6812 IMG_6808
The kids share a room and have begged for a bunk bed for years.  Our plan was for Gid to sleep on the top, but Emme and her friends prefer the top.  The kids love having a jungle gym in their room.

IA Tour…

IMG_6733

Gideon and Emme will be attending IA this year.  It is an English speaking Christian School that is only about 20 minutes from our apartment.  We took the kids on a tour today and loved it!!!  Please pray for the kids (and mommy) as they adjust to a new school, new teachers, new friends and a new schedule!!!

Home Tour: Living Room

I should have taken before shots, but as usual…forgot!
IMG_6870 IMG_6797 IMG_6801 IMG_6803
Our living room is the hub of our home…we can watch movies, play Wii, take naps.  Two of the three couches are the landlords and one belonged to dear friends of our.  The landlord’s couches were not in the best shape and I could not find premade covers to fit them.  In a moment of desperation, I covered them with sheets and ended up liking the results way better than any other options I could come up with.  The bright colors make our living room very cheery!  Two couches convert to beds, so we can have a huge slumber party!!!  I still need to have photos developed and hang a few more pics, but you can see our mug collection!

My Favorite Spot…

IMG_6715
I have always wanted my own space…a chair, my books, my favorite photos, a quilt my grandmother made and the last quilt my mom made and my computer…my life line to the rest of the World!!!  Since our new apartment has three bedrooms (I can’t believe we have 3 bedrooms…I feel like we live in a mansion!!!), I “encouraged” the kids to share a room and made the extra room into my very own space…to be shared with my very special guests…or I should say guest, since there is only a single bed!!!

And…this is my view!!!

Our 3rd Trip to Mega…

IMG_6722 IMG_6727

We made our third trip (in three weeks!!!) to IKEA for a few final purchases for our apartment.  Our trip included a yummy lunch at the Mega Food Court (including McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Subway, Sbarros, Baked Potatoes and so many other fabulous options) and ice cream from Baskin Robins!!!

After purchasing our new bikes, we went to celebrate at a gorgeous car-free island!  We had a blast and only one minor wipe-out!
